ENGLISH CHAPTER RING
& FOLDING GNOMON
FOR POCKET SUNDIAL

This sale is only for the chapter ring and gnomon, and does not include the compass it would have been mounted on

The ring and gnomon assembly is well-made and nicely engraved - the gnomon can fold to either side, and has a sprung detent to hold it firmly upright or in either of its folded positions

The gnomon is set at 50° (approximately London)

Diameter: the chapter ring is not a perfect circle (normal in the late 1600s) and the diameter varies between 63.25mm and 64.30mm - average 63.77mm

This could be fixed to to the glass of any suitably sized compass and used, or set into wood with a small aligning compass to create a working antique sundial, or could be the part you need to complete a pocket compass that is missing this part
