Delightful antique silver metal pendant charm in the form of a tortoise containing a compass that is revealed when the hinged tortoise shell is lifted
The tortoise is cast from silver metal (possibly silver) with very good detail. The underside of the tortoise's shell, which acts as a hinged lid, is gold or gilt plated
The 8mm diameter miniature compass has hand-painted dial markings with the north pointer finely blued. The compass points accurately to north
No dents or damage to the charm or the compass, but the link ring is misshapen and would need to be soldered closed
Length from nose to tail: 30.4mm
This is an antique, and if worn around the neck the compass is not waterproof, so it would not survive swimming or showering
