ANTIQUE circa 1870 F BARKER & SON POCKET COMPASS

Handsome brass half hunter cased pocket compass bearing the pre-1875 trade mark, produced while Francis Barker Snr. was alive.  The styling of the compass dates to around 1860 - 1870.

Aluminium card/dial in perfect condition on a jewelled cap, points perfectly to north.  Centre of card and stripe inside the lid made of a NON-RADIOACTIVE luminous (no longer luminous) finish, with original instruction ticket inside the lid.  Manual transit lock blocks the compass  and manual damping brake helps settle the compass when taking a sighting.  The lid opens and closes correctly, and the hinge is in perfect condition.

Both original glasses in perfect condition.

The original leather pouch with belt loop is in good overall condition, but some of the stitching has broken on the seams.

The brass case in in very good condition and carries the pre-1875 triangular Trade Mark London F Barker & Son trade mark on the underside.
