This compass has the earliest known plunger type transit lock.

The original glass is in perfect condition.

Dimensions: Diameter excluding neck and bow 45mm - length including neck and bow 62mm, thickness 18mm, overall weight 50g.

This compass would have been made to match a tortoiseshell pair case pocket watch that were popular around 1770.

This item should really be in a museum.
